Dear families of St. Michael’s School, Bow Island
As I’m sure you are aware, Principal Chris Sumner will be retiring at the end of the current school year. I know I speak with many in thanking Mr. Sumner for his leadership, dedication to Catholic education, and service to the St. Michael’s School community since it became part of our Holy Spirit Catholic School Division in 2014.
In preparation for the upcoming school year, I am pleased to let you know that Mr. Mark DeJong has agreed to serve as Principal for both St. Michael’s School in Bow Island, as well as St. Mary’s School in Taber.
Mr. DeJong has been a leader with Holy Spirit Catholic School Division since becoming Associate Principal at St. Mary’s School in 2017. He took on the role of Principal at that school in 2020 and continues to demonstrate a desire for innovation and a true commitment to excellence in Catholic Education that I am certain will benefit St. Michael’s School. I know that Mark is tremendously excited about this move and sees great potential to bolster educational opportunities for the students at St. Michael School.
To further support the St. Michael’s School community, the division is currently seeking an Associate Principal for the school. We ask for your prayers as we discern the right candidate.
In the meantime, please join me in thanking Mr. Sumner and Mr. DeJong for their service to our school division. We pray for a blessed transition for both of them.
